7th European Conference of Sustainable Cities & Towns

The 7th European Conference of Sustainable Cities & Towns will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, April 17-19, 2013. The agenda includes: Is a green and socially responsible economy a solution in times of crisis?

More than 200 speakers will join the 7th European Conference on Sustainable Cities & Towns, who, together with key representatives of local and national governments, European and international organizations, business, research and NGO associates, will debate sustainability in the context of current European crises. Furthermore, the conference will explore how the development of a green and socially responsible economy can help local governments to address economic, environmental and social challenges.

The objectives of the conference include:
• Debate sustainability in the context of current European crises and explore how the development of a green and socially responsible economy can help local governments address economic, social and environmental
challenges;
• Assess and further support the progress and achievements of European local governments in the field of sustainable development;
• Examine how different sectors can cooperate to finance and promote sustainable development;
• Convene key actors to identify what is needed in terms of governance frameworks;
• Take the opportunity provided by the conference to discuss the implementation of the Europe 2020 goals at the local level, and the potential impacts of the European vision for 2050;
• Exchange best practices and offer guidance and support to local governments who wish to become sustainable cities and towns, in particular through the Aalborg Commitments and the launch of a new internet platform on local sustainability;
• Showcase Geneva’s progress in terms of sustainability and its role as an international hub for governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as private multinational companies.
